What is it?
In Ontario, every school must have a school council. At the secondary school level, school councils consist of parents, the principal, a teacher, a non-teaching employee, a community representative and students. The purpose of school councils is to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. School councils have an advisory role and make recommendations to the principal and the school board. The school council provides you an opportunity to contribute to improving student achievement and school performance.
